Discovering Washingtons Historic Mines Volume 3

Three of the Northwest Underground Explorations group members, Phil Woodhouse, Daryl Jacobson, and Vic Pisoni, have collaborated to produce this companion to Volumes 1 and 2. It follows the same format as the first two books, but highlights the many mines in Whatcom, Skagit, and that portion of Okanogan County that lies in, and south of, the Pasayten Wilderness. The stories of the town of Barron, the discovery of the Lone Jack Mine, and many others tell of the tenacity of the early miners in this wild area. You will discover the Boundary Red Mountain Mine, the spectacular discovery of Eureka Gulch, and coal and iron finds that were predicted to turn the area into the "Pittsburg of the West". The history includes tales of some of the early explorers and characters who inhabited the area. The Three authors have completed the extensive research on the materials that bring this book to life. The book contains many photographs, maps, and graphics just as in the first two books. The excitement of the gold, silver, and copper rushes have been told in all their detail. Many of the mines in the northern tier are large, and have produced great amounts of metals. Volume III reveals it all, and is now at a book store near you.
